- Caption: "Eagle Gate -- Salt Lake City," c. 1916. View of the Eagle Gate, a monument in the shape of an arch topped by an eagle with outstretched wings. The monument was originally erected in 1859 to commemorate the entrance to Brigham Young's property. The monument has been remodeled several times over the years, including a change from a carved wooden eagle to a 4,000-pound bronze eagle with twenty-foot wingspan.
