Established by lumber baron Melvin Cyrus Meeker in 1866, by the turn of the twentieth century the area primarily served as a vacation and resort destination.
Contributor: Audrey Fullerton-Samora of Sacramento, great niece of William and Grace McCarthy, donated the William M. McCarthy Photograph Collection to the California State Archives in 1996.
