California-Colonial History Timeline
Arguably the most significant work published by the commission was the twenty-eight-page California-Colonial History Time-Line. Covering the years 1769 to 1783, the timeline discussed historical events that took place in California and in the thirteen colonies during the period of the American Revolution. It was created by Dr. R. Coke Wood and four of his students at the University of the Pacific. Copies of the California-Colonial History Time-Line were distributed to each school in California by the State Department of Education. According to this publication, California and the newly formed United States “had different cultures, habits, language and even dress. But eventually the two would merge and each would contribute inestimably to the universal character which America has continued to enjoy.”
