American Revolution Bicentennial Commission
The national American Revolution Bicentennial Commission established by the federal government selected three themes for the anniversary: Heritage ’76, Festival USA, and Horizons ’76. Projects seeking the support of California’s commission would need to conform to one or more of these themes. The Heritage ’76 theme focused on a re-examination of American values within an historical perspective. Festival USA-themed events sought to honor the contributions made by peoples from around the world to the development of American traditions and culture. Finally, Horizons ’76 projects were community-improvement efforts aimed at strengthening society for future generations.
