A total of 176 planes successfully finished the 2,926-mile course. The winner, Trina Jarish of Irving, California, won $10,000. Unfortunately, the Powder Puff Derby would be discontinued due to rising costs and the lack of financial backing. In 1977 the spirit of the Powder Puff Derby was reborn in the form of the Air Race Classic, another race for female pilots which is still held annually.
