American Revolution Bicentennial Commission of California

Much like the nationwide programming planned in preparation for the America 250 anniversary in 2026, in the years leading up to America's 200th anniversary July 4, 1976, thousands of Americans engaged in planning hundreds of commemorative events, ceremonies and projects across the country. In 1967 the California State Legislature established an American Revolution Bicentennial Commission of California to publicize and commemorate the revolution’s bicentennial. This commission would “provide for, assist, sponsor, and promote statewide and local celebrations” in a manner that was “advisory only and not managerial in relation to local observances.”
