Camron-Stanford House Preservation Association
The Camron-Stanford House was built in 1876 by William Camron and was later lived in by Josiah Stanford and his family (Josiah’s brother was California governor Leland Stanford). In 1907 the house was purchased by the City of Oakland, which used the space as a museum for the next sixty years. In 1971 the Camron-Stanford House Preservation Association was formed to save the house, which had fallen into disrepair and was scheduled for demolition. The association aimed to restore the home, create exhibit rooms and offer public tours.
