African American History Month
Another activity organized by the Our Authors Study Club using the funding they received through the Bicenntenial Commission of California included tours of local landmarks including businesses, historical sites and homes of pioneering Black families in Los Angeles. Events such as these were overseen by a planning committee of more than 100 individuals. In 1975 the commission agreed to provide the Our Authors Study Club with financial support which allowed these Black History Week events to be expanded into a Black History Month encompassing all of February.
